My Personal Thanksgiving
During a conversation last week with my spiritual big brother, I blurted this out:
“My attitude toward work, I think, is different than others.
Some people work to make money, then they figure out what to do with that money.
Because they have to be at work at a certain time, for so many hours, they make a set amount of money. Sometimes they don’t really want or need anything, but since they have this money sitting there, they invent ways of spending it. Sometimes they invent stupid ways of spending it.
Even during days when they don’t need anything, they work anyway because they have no choice, they have to be at work.
On the other hand, I own my own business, so I work when I want to buy something. When I don’t need to buy something, I don’t work. When I need to buy something more expensive, I work harder. My need to buy something dictates my working for it, not the other way around.
And maybe because I know exactly why I work, it makes me more enthusiastic to want to work. It also helps that I love what I do.”
For this, I’m thankful.
